A voice that lingers after the last note
For more than twenty years, Courtney Freed has been captivating audiences with a voice critics have called “effervescent,” “breathtaking,” and “a whirlwind of excitement.” A Portland jazz vocalist and songwriter, she is equally at home in a sultry ballad, a swinging uptempo, or an original that cuts straight to the heart.
Her 2022 album Big Crazy Love announced her as a songwriter to watch. A new album of fresh originals and reimagined covers is in the works.
Her repertoire spans the Great American Songbook, swing, bossa nova, and jazz-inflected originals, in settings from an intimate guitar duo to her five-piece swing band, The Courtney Freed Five. She has headlined rooms from Herb Alpert’s Vibrato Grill Jazz in Los Angeles to Davenport’s in Chicago, and has performed with the Oregon Symphony.
